Riparian Forest Buffer Research Funded | Mar-2007
Dr. Leslie Orzetti, senior scientist, will continue to serve as lead principal investigator examining how effective riparian reforestation efforts on DoD lands in the Chesapeake are functioning ecologically. We will continue to sample streams adjacent to reforested areas looking specifically at the macroinvertebrate community and water quality variables to assess the health of streams after trees/vegetation are re-established. With ambitious riparian reforestation goals set by the Chesapeake Bay Program, understanding how biological communities respond to habitat creation efforts allows for informed decisions by resource managers.
