In partnership with Southern Maryland RC & D and the US Navy, Ecosystem Solutions is assessing potential impacts or changes to the resident fish community that may be associated with the construction of offshore breakwaters along the Potomac River at Indian Head, MD. "The findings of this research will be quite important as similar projects continue to take place in coastal areas in order to stem erosion due to sea level rise," commented Bob Murphy, ESI director and principal investigator. Typically, we build, we modify, and we forget. This effort will hopefully provide critical information as to the ecological response(s) to such projects and provide resource managers and other scientists more tools in order to evaluate risks or benefits.
